Lessons from SOBCon07: I’m In Love

SOBCon07I’m in love with someone. Actually, several someones… and my heart is fit to burst right now, I’m feeling so much love.

I’m shocked — I thought you were married!?

I am married, silly. And I love my wife the most. But I’m also in love with Wendy. And Phil. And David. And Liz. And Jonathan, Kammie, Ben, Peter, Sean, Christine, Lisa, Lucia, Lisa and Chris, Ari, Lorelle, Easton, Director Tom, Alex, Mike, Marcus, Terry, Kent, Sandy, Franke, Tony, Michael, Derrick, Drew, Ashley, and Andy.

(and of course I’m in love with Dawud, but you knew that already)

Have you gone off your rocker?

Yeah, you could say that. Last weekend, I got off my rocker and went to Chicago for SOBCon07. I met so many fabulous people, had so many engaging conversations, and learned so much great stuff, I’m head over heels in love.

There were so many fabulous people there, it was hard to keep track (so if I forgot someone I connected with from the list above, my deepest apologies… I still love you!). And I heard many people say on many occasions that this was the best conference they’d ever been to.

So, here’s the deal: there are many great accounts of SOBCon out there, so I’m not going to try to recap the breadth of what happened. Instead, I’m going to share with you some of the amazing lessons I learned, and the insights and ideas that came to me as a result of what I experienced there.

I’m going to roll out a series of posts that shares with you the deeper message and learnings I experienced from going to the Windy City for 48 life-changing hours. It’s the best way I could think of to bring the power and synergy of such an event to all of you who couldn’t be there.

Why?

Because I want to see you there next year, of course!

Let the games begin!

Shhhhhh…. don’t tell my hubby but I’m in love with all of you too!!

Seriously, there’s no way a blog post can do justice to our experience together! And I can’t wait to read what you come up with on this one! :D

Liz, thanks for coming by… I’m excited about the idea, too. I learned so much, on so many levels, in so many circumstances, I couldn’t see a “recap” doing justice of it for my readers.

Jonathan, it was great to meet you in person, too… and you’d better believe we’re going to continue this friendship — I’m campaigning heavily for SOBMontreal, too!

    And don’t worry, Wendy, I won’t tell a soul… ;-)

Hey Adam - It was so great to meet you in person. I’m with Liz, I’m looking forward to reading this series.

There were so many great things happening, you’re smart making it a series. I had a hard time keeping my wrap-up from turning into a book :)

  7. Adam Kayce on May 15th, 2007

Terry, Elton’s got nothin’ on you. :-)

    Tony,
it was great to meet you, too. I thought long and hard about how I could get a synopsis of all that happened into one post, but there was just no way. First installment rolls out tomorrow, if all goes well!

  8. Phil Gerbyshak on May 15th, 2007

Adam - can’t wait to see what you’re going to write man. Love you too bro!

  9. Kammie on May 15th, 2007

    Adam~

It was really cool meeting and hanging out (even tho we both waited till the end of the day for introductions)…so glad you hijacked us over to Tandoor…I’ll always rememeber my first time…eating Indian of course! Yum:)

Can’t wait to start earning my black belt so we MUST keep in touch. You’re the master intuitive, so just send me some e-love when you’re picking up that I need a boost, OK?

Stay passionate and I’ll stay super-calliapygian-istic-expialidocious!

    Big hug,
    KK

    Hi Adam

One of the ones who wasn’t there. But I ‘was’ there still.

Can’t explain properly, all the wonderful posts and pictures (before, during and after) all said the same:

One amazing link-love event taking everything (including for some who weren’t there) to the next step.

    Hi Karin and Adam,
We somehow took the conversation out of the comment box and moved it all over a grand hotel to wherever we wanted. I guess that was quite freeing.

We’re working on some great ideas on what to do when I get back from my son’s graducation to keep the conversation growing. . . . each person passing on the dialogue in his or her own way as Adam does in such a lovely way here. :)

  12. Dawud Miracle on May 16th, 2007

Hey brother, you already know how much I love you, Laila and the girls…at least I think you do. Great to spend time with you again. How is it that we let so much time go by between being together?

I’m with Wendy, there’s really no way to express what happened at SOBCon in writing. It was really something that needed to be experienced. So let’s all keep sharing so that even more people can have the experience next year.

Thanks Liz and Terry and Tony and Jonathan. Heck, thanks to EVERYBODY.

  13. Adam Kayce on May 16th, 2007

Yep, Karin, you nailed it — it was about going to the next step, through love and engaging conversation.

I know Liz had the intention of making this not another one-way conference, where lecturers just delivered content (how Web 1.0 would that have been?). She wanted it to do exactly what she said it did, which was to bring the comment box out into the real world.

What Kammie, Phil, and Dawud are talking about, here and on their own blogs, was such a contagiously delicious experience, we can’t imagine not being there next year.

  14. Mary Schmidt on May 16th, 2007

    Adam,

Wish we’d had more time - would have loved to talk with you one-on-one (I’m the woman who stood up at the very end of the conference and complimented you on being in touch with your feminine side. That whole photo/no photo discussion, ah-yahhhh…)

I’m so glad to have found your blog and your wisdom. I plan on stealing - ur - borrowing from you on a regular basis (with link love, natch.)

  15. Adam Kayce on May 17th, 2007

Mary, that would’ve been nice to connect more… I could tell when you spoke that we’d probably have a great time singing “kum ba ya” together. ;-) Feel free to steal borrow whenever you like. :-)
